Beer Ribs

Mmmmmm Ribs. They seem tedious to make, but are actually pretty quick to prepare and is totally worth the cook time. Here's a recipe I came up with that has also helped me slowly get rid off all the extra beer we have in the fridge (we're wine people!).

Beer Ribs

1 slab of pork ribs (approximately 12-14 individual ribs), cut into 2-3 rib sections
1/2 onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, chopped
Salt and pepper
2 bay leaves
2 cups beef broth
1 can beer (I used a lager)
2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp hot sauce
Steak Spice
BBQ sauce of choice (I happen to like the Kraft Original stuff)

Pre-heat oven to 300 degrees F. In a 9 x 13 inch baking dish, place the ribs in and season liberally with salt and pepper.

Add in onions, garlic, and bay leaves. The add in beef broth, beer, worcestershire and hot sauce (should be enough to have the ribs soak, but not completely cover them).

Put the ribs in the oven for 2-3 hours (the longer the better). Flipping the ribs every hour or so.

Take the ribs out and put on a board or plate to rest. If you have a BBQ handy go ahead and slather the ribs in steak spice and BBQ sauce and BBQ them on each side for about 5 minutes (just enough to get them a little crispy). If you don't have a BBQ just go ahead and drain the baking dish and return the rib back into it, slathering then with steak spice and BBQ sauce and returning then to a 375 degree F oven for about 15 minutes or so.

These ribs are very juicy and tender and pick up a lot of flavour from the onions, garlic and beer!
